Guide to staying in
The Village at Nags Head.

Why this sound-and-ocean community is the Outer Banks' most family-friendly neighborhood — private beach club, golf next door, walk-to restaurants, and where to stay.

The Village

A planned community in the middle of Nags Head — on both the sound and the ocean.

The Village at Nags Head is a master-planned community in Nags Head, North Carolina that spans the full width of the barrier island — between roughly mileposts 14 and 15 of the Outer Banks — with homes on the sound (west) side overlooking the Roanoke Sound, and homes on the ocean (east) side just steps from the Atlantic.

Unlike the wall-of-houses stretches along the oceanfront, the Village was designed as a neighborhood from the start: quiet streets, green space, private sound-side piers, an 18-hole golf course (Nags Head Golf Links) at the south end, and the all-new Village Beach Club (opening 2026) — a private oceanfront facility with pools, private cabanas, dining, pickleball courts, beach activities, and live events and concerts, plus a beach access reserved for Village guests and owners.

That mix of amenities, paired with grocery stores and shops right at the entrance, is why families come back to the Village year after year — often for decades.

Why The Village

Beach access, golf, family streets, and walk-to everything.

The Village isn't the cheapest neighborhood on the Outer Banks and it isn't the flashiest. What it is, consistently, is the easiest — especially with kids, grandparents, or both in the house.

Private beach access

The all-new Village Beach Club (opening 2026) gives Village guests a private oceanfront beach access with pools, private cabanas, dining, beach activities, live concerts and events, plus pickleball courts.

Nags Head Golf Links next door

An 18-hole public course laid out along the Roanoke Sound, immediately adjacent to the Village. Tee times for guests are easy to come by, and the back nine has some of the best sunset views on the Outer Banks.

A real family neighborhood

The Village is a planned community spanning both the sound side and ocean side of Nags Head — quiet streets, low-traffic culs-de-sac, private sound-side piers, and decades of multi-generational families who've been coming back since the 1980s.

Walk-to breakfast & beach club

Walkable from most Village homes: Kill Devil Grill South and Duck Donuts for breakfast, plus the Village Beach Club's poolside grill. For dinner you'll drive — Miller's Waterfront is the best sound-side option, and Tortuga's Lie and Blue Moon Beach Grill are our favorites.

Groceries & shops next door

Outer Banks Mall sits at the Village entrance — Food Lion, Fresh Market, pharmacies, surf shops, ice cream, and casual dining. You can walk to a gallon of milk; you don't need to drive for the basics.

Central to everything OBX

Nags Head sits in the middle of the Outer Banks. From the Village, Jockey's Ridge is 5 minutes, Manteo is 15, Bodie Island Lighthouse is 20, and the Cape Hatteras National Seashore opens up south from there. Everything is reachable in a day trip.

Sound-side calm

The Village sits on the Roanoke Sound side of the island — calmer water, glassy sunset paddles, two private community piers, and a 180° west-facing view that turns gold every evening.

Designed as a community, not a strip

Unlike the oceanfront 'Beach Road' rows of houses, the Village was master-planned with amenities, green space, and a beach club at its center. It feels like a neighborhood, not a vacation block.

A Village Example

What a great Village rental looks like.

Sound Decision is a five-bedroom, 5½-bath sound-front home at the highest elevation in the Village. It's a useful reference point for what to look for in a Village rental: an elevator to all four floors, en-suite bedrooms, a real cook's kitchen, multiple gathering spaces, a top-floor great room with panoramic Roanoke Sound views, and a short walk to both the Village Beach Club and the sound-side piers.

It sleeps 12, hosts multi-generational families and reunions, and looks directly over Nags Head Golf Links.

Who It's For

Who the Village is best for.

Multi-generational families

Elevator-equipped homes, walkable amenities, and quiet streets make it one of the easiest OBX neighborhoods for grandparents, parents, and kids under one roof.

Golfers traveling with family

Nags Head Golf Links is steps away — play 18 in the morning, be back at the pool by lunch. The non-golfers in the group aren't stuck waiting.

Sunset chasers & sound-water lovers

Sound-side homes in the Village offer calm-water kayaking, paddleboarding, and the best west-facing sunsets in Nags Head. Prefer ocean? The Village also has oceanside streets just steps from the surf.

Family reunions & milestone trips

Larger sound-front homes like Sound Decision sleep 12+ across en-suite bedrooms, with gathering spaces big enough for the whole family and a beach club nearby for everyone else.
